This lake is known for its matted grass/vegetation (for good reason!). However, in the fall, the wind and rain can often destroy these habitats. Instead of forcing the issue, try bluff walls - especially in or around a channel swing. Cast a Football or Shaky Head jig with a Bandito Bug right up against the bluff walls and let it fall a few feet before jigging it. Regarding weather conditions for this technique, you’re looking for sunny, clear skies with little-to-no wind and water temps in the mid-80s. I’ve applied this technique to good effect for largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass. The attached picture is a smallie I landed on Guntersville with the aforementioned setup. Good luck!
