    Blueback Herring

Just finished up a tournament on Lake Lanier in October. Lanier is known for having a huge population spotted bass that feed heavily on blueback herring. Herring are pelagic in nature and swim in open water. Finding numerous brush piles in 15-30 feet of water was key. I would make a few cast on each pile and bounce around trying to find the most active fish. The largest spots came on a swimbait and crankbait. The stiff winds eliminated any topwater action although it was a player in practice. Fish fast for the best chance of a trophy spotted bass!
