Deep or shallow nothing commands a bigger Smallmouth bite like a spybait. The shallow areas of Lake St-Clair offer huge flats that are occasionally populated by big spooky fish who require a long cast and a low profile finess presentation. A spy bait is a great way to cover water in these shallow situations. In deeper situations it can feel like a much slower way to fish when you just factor in sink time and a slower retrieve to keep it down. Don’t forget a quick turn of the handle or to stop it and dump slack in it to get a following semi-neutral fish to commit.
