On October 12th my client Chris and I started out pitching the outkast tackle perfect ned, the wind started to die down and the temp dropped a little. Before Chris started throwing the swimbait he said he had zero confidence in it. After catching his PB it would be the first bait he would pick up. The key to the swimbait is much like crankbaits. I feel like bottom contact and never really having a particular cadence gets you more bites. Killing the bait and letting it fall to bottom triggered some pretty good bites. Part of the key for me is to know when and where sizes matter. So when the size of the perch are smaller often times I’m throwing a Keitech swing fat 2.8 in paired with an outkast tackle golden eye with a 1/0. The hook size is key as it affects the movement of your tail. When I go to a 3.3 or 3.8 in swimbait I’ll upsize to a 3/0. But remember the key is the cadence in your retrieve and always switching.
