Just finished the Hobie Bass Open Series on Sam Rayburn. The lake was at historic flood levels and many ramps and access points were closed. Fishing was unique given the large amount of flooded areas around the lake, presenting unusual habitat and new areas for the bass to roam. Weather was ever-changing and so was the bite. Early morning was successful with the Megabass Boa Buzzbait. Mid morning when breeze was slight, bass would start schooling along points and banks they could drive shad up against, topwater such as the Megabass SB or other spook style baits worked great. Also had great success on points that were wind blown, over flooded brush and grasslines. Used wacky rigged senkos as well as texas rigged Giant TRDs with tail spinners along tops of flooded brush or up against flooded trees. Also had great success throughout the day with deeper slow retrieve of Megabass spark shad along tops of flooded brush and points that shad were being driven by schools.
