Slow dragging a football jig with craw trailer is deadly early spring when the first first start to move up. Be sure to only use your rod and slow drag. The fish will often bite aggressively, almost ripping the rod back, and sometimes they will just load up. Make sure that your bait is not too heavy otherwise you will get snagged in the rocks.
