Surprise catch jigging for pike! It was a great surprise though! Make sure to seek out underwater structure when fishing on ice and let your bait jig, flutter, and pause.

This report is for the DULUTH HARBOR of Lake Superior. The harbor offers great walleye fishing, particularly early in the ice season. This piece of water typically does not freeze over entirely so be careful and be sure to check ice conditions prior to walking out. Mud is prevalent here - there is little to no rock and minimal depth changes. Walleyes seem to roam so there is no need to go chase fish by drilling many holes. Jigging a small spoon tipped with a chub minnow's head will yield results. The bite is primarily happening early morning. Minimal action happening after 9 AM. Walleyes range from 12-25 inches.
