Hot and lake level was up. In the shade the fuzzy dice type plastic on a wacky hook was money every cast.

It was a HOT and WINDY day at Prairie Rose State Park. It was the first time I had ever been to this lake, but it did not disappoint. The frog bite was hot to start the morning, but the drop shot helped me upgrade throughout the afternoon. The lake had a weed line around most of the lake that came out 10-15 feet from shore. I was tossing the drop shot off the edge of these weed lines, and the bass were hungry. I caught at least 25 fish throughout the day, biggest being 2.25lb.

Went out early to beat the heat and wind. Fished the wind blown island rip rap with a spinnerbait and picked apart the area I got bites with the finesse jig and neko. Also got one on a buzz bait and popper so got a little bit of topwater action!

Summer fishing at Carter Lake has been significantly harder than the last few years due to the changes in habitat and the weather. Lily pads are sparse and fish are holding to small isolated clusters of them and weed lines close to shore. Bass are feeding on bluegill close to the bank sporadically throughout the day. Bladed jigs have been working well in open water along the weed lines and the few areas of the lake with lily pads.

Pretty slow morning so I resorted to fan casting the c-rig on flats in about 6’-8’ of water near points I thought they would be on. Big one came on the c-rig but the numbers came on going back through with the neko rig. I eventually found a pile and hit the spot lock for the next 3 hours filling up my Rapala scale 🤘🏼

The drop shot worked well along grass edges. The fish were actively feeding and on the move. The key is to be patient and let the trick worm do its thing!

Caught a couple nice largemouth while it was raining around standing timber in about 8-10 ft of water. Was really finesse swimming the crush city mayor with a 1/8 oz 4O weighted hook. Photo is of my dad who was fishing with me.

Fish were biting this morning. Started with a popmax and got one on that while the sun was rising. After that I picked apart the grass with a swim jig and a Texas rig. Targeted the grass points with wind/current pushing against the grass. Seem to concentrate the fish.

With a tournament going on, I had to adjust and fish where I could. Slowed down and focused on mid-depth spots with isolated wood where I’ve had success before. A finesse football jig did most of the work, with a shakey head as a solid follow-up. Ran into a pile of fish and just hit spot lock the rest of the morning.

Couldn’t catch them on anything but a buzzbait tonight. Caught a bunch of small ones on a neko rig too but the quality came on the buzzbait. Placed 4th in a little Wednesday nighter.

Tough early fall day. Had a 30 minute window right at sunset when the bass went from lethargic to very active.

Go fish every single brushpile in the lake and see what pulls back. I recommend using lead dropshot weights because you lose quite a few and tungsten is way too expensive.
