Summary

What you need to know about fishing Allatoona Lake

Lake Allatoona is a medium-sized, deep lake with a surface area of 12,010 acres and a maximum depth of 145 feet. It has a great stock of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and black crappie. Allatoona has great shoreline structure. If you want to hammer bass, look for fallen trees or lily pads on the shore and cast a crankbait or flip soft worms on the edge of these structures. Shallow rock structures are also great for locating these fish. During pre-spawn, these fish move closer to shore so make sure you make the proper adjustments and cast your lures as close to the shoreline as you can get them. Targeting panfish like crappie look for sunken logs or structure in about 3 to 6 feet of water. In the summer, these crappies tend to travel slightly deeper and come to the surface to feed early in the morning and at dusk. Jigs with live bait are a sure fire way to put plenty of fish in the boat. Mealworms or small minnows are highly recommended and present an opportunity for bobber fishing.
