On 8/22/2021 it was sunny, 78 (cool front relative to the hot previous week,) and ranged from dead calm in the morning. My buddy caught a bunch of 3lb bass to win our little club tournament. He was throwing an Outkast Chicken Jig, casting to submerged weeds, milfoil, coontail. A stop and go retrieve was what he suggested, let it fall to the bottom then reel a couple turns, drop to the bottom and repeat as soon as it hits bottom - watch the line. In the calm conditions I was able to catch keepers on a drop shot, but the big heavy hair jig caught more of the quality bass. After the day got windier I was able to somewhat replicate his hair jig technique with a white spinner bait, getting bites while I stopped cranking and let the spinner bait fall. Putting the boat in 15-20ft of water within casting range of the offshore humps and submerged weeds should still be the place to catch the bass here for some time. You'll may have some toothy pike or even a muskie getting involved too.

This 17incher was the biggest of 21 caught today. That’s not a misprint I got 21 today my new daily record got all but 2 on the the slammer blown away how good it worked went through almost the whole bag.it was a bit of a challenge to rig them weedless with a roboworm hook plus the hook tore them pretty easily so it’s probably better to use a regular drop shot hook

Swim jigs have produced good numbers with a couple 2.5 - 3.5 pounders mixed in. Look for grass in 3+ feet of water that hasn’t quite topped out. Throw the swim jig in there and slow roll it through and over the grass. Whenever you get stuck rip the swim jig out as if it were a lipless crank, this will sometimes yield a reaction strike. Keep colors simple stick to bluegill patterns and green pumpkins.
