What you need to know about fishing Cayuga Lake

Cayuga lake is the second largest of the glacial finger lakes in central New York. Carved from glaciers over 100,000 years ago, the lake is filled with steep walls and sharp drop offs with a maximum depth of 435 ft. It extends north from Ithaca, through Tompkins, Cayuga, and Seneca counties. The very northern portion of the lake is shallow and filled with vegetation while the rest of the lake has colder/deeper water, making it a perfect habitat to support numbers of Lake Trout and Salmon. Many of its tributaries also provide a great habitat for rainbow trout. Keying in on structure or grass edges with soft plastics have proven to be successful for Largemouth Bass while rock ledges and points are often where Smallmouth bass can be caught. Max Depth: 435 ft, Average Depth: 180 ft
