Fish lake can be super fun, and Tuesday evening July 5th, it was just that. So many frog bites so little time! It was mostly calm and lightly raining. Storms and lightning were around but miles away. Some bites came near openings in the lily pads or near wood, but the key to the better size and numbers of bass was to keep the frog quickly walking over the submerged vegetation that was just touching the surface of the water. This was deeper than the pads, more like 4' of water. Only pausing the frog for a half second every half dozen twitches was enough to give them time to crush it. I usually fish the frog with much longer pauses and work more slowly, but the bass apparently weren't on board with that program. They wanted it moving!

Water in this lake is quite stained, and has only maybe 1.5ft clarity so submerged weeds don't grow too deep. Water temp at about 80 degrees. The better quality bass were in 6 to 8 fow on greener submerged vegetation. Chuck-and-winding a white chatterbait worked well to catch several 3 pounders. Retrieved a chatterbait as slow as it would still vibrate, as close to the weeds as possible, and making contact then snapping off the vegetation. Also added a few keeper largemouth with a hollow body frog in the pads and over the shallow weeds at sunset.

Early in the morning, I was catching fish using a frog among the weeds. As that bite slowed down, I switched to a small Texas rigged creature bait and when possible a chatterbait among the weeds. All other structure on the lake wasn't producing any bites.
