Folsom Lake living up to my nickname for it (Torture Lake) cuz it was a grind this day. I normally stick to the North Fork, but ventured to the South Fork for a change. I fished hard all day for a total of 4 bites. And it was 104 Degrees out....The Z-Man Original Chatterbait came through for me. I love the Sexy Shad pattern with a white Strike King Grub. That's such a strong combo. I also got a couple with a tried and true Strike King Cut-R Worm on a Texas Rig. Because of the heat, the fish were hunkered down and I think you had to pretty much drop a lure right on their nose to get a bite. The spottie in the picture was long and skinny. Had a frame for a 4+ pounder but only 2lb 10oz on the scale.

Well...it happened again. I was out on Folsom the week before and got into a smallie at about 40 feet with a senko. So this last Saturday, I was near that same spot and I had this Outkast Chicken Jig near the shoreline hitting submerged boulders and ledges and crushing Spotties. So I peeled out to where I caught the smallie the week before, sent that Chicken Jig to the bottom at about 40 feet, popped it up and down a couple times and WHAM....hooked into another nice small mouth. 2lb 10oz of pure muscle. Two pretty good weeks in a row at Torture Lake....Most other people call it Folsom Lake....I'm kind of surprised.

This lake! It's different every time I go out. What a grind. The one constant is the KVD Blue Craw Red Flake color. KVD has it for just about every soft bait they offer. So if you're going to Folsom, I strongly recommend stocking up on whatever your favorite finesse techniques are with this pattern. The lake level is down a bit. And as I continue to pull myself away from fishing the shoreline (where I'm most confident) to learn more offshore techniques, I was able to go off shore and easily find submerged boulders. I wasn't getting any action with a Texas rig, so I switched to a shop shot, and things lit up from there. I went from grumpy to happy, pretty quick!
