Summary

What you need to know about fishing Gull Lake (MI)

Gull Lake is Located in Kalamazoo County and is roughly 2,030 acres in size. This glacially developed body of water is a popular destination for both it’s quality fishing but also it’s clean water, making it a great destination for pleasureboaters. A testament to the clarity of water is that this lake is a destination of choice among scuba divers, it even features sunken artifacts such as a phone booth, ice shanty, and even a swing set for divers to explore. Summer weekends tend to be the peak of this traffic. Some of the fish species that are popular to target include both Rainbow and Lake Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Yellow Perch, Bluegill, and Northern Pike. A majority of the bottom composition is made up of a sand and gravel mix, this results in lots of bass, pike, and bluegill being caught in any grass or vegetation that can be found. This provides great cover for them. Lures to be used for Bass and Pike are spinnerbaits and crankbaits retrieved just above the top of the grass. Additionally, a majority of the Trout are captured in the deeper holes that Gull features. These fish can suspend and use their eyesight to chase bait in the deep water. Spoons and jigs are the best ways to pursue these trout.
