With the passing of a frontal system and clear skies with a wind from the northwest at 25 to 35 mph fishing was difficult. High winds limited the fishing areas. 4 foot rollers were common in many places. If not for a tournament, we would have put the boat on the trailer and went home. Even with the high winds, the fish were biting with many limits weighed in. The fish appeared to be small mails waiting for the females to come in to spawn . Thee were no beds present or fish showing signs of building nests. Morning water temps were 59 reaching 64 by days end. Cover water was the main pattern using spinner baits. around laydown and standing timber. A follow up bait was a finesse worm. The Zoom Finesse worm worked best rigged wheedles with a 1/8 oz tungsten weight. Spinner baits were chartreuse / white in 3/8 oz Most used wither a double colorado or willow leaf spinner bait. Expect the spawn to get underway over the next two to three weeks.
