What You Need to Know About Fishing Indian Lake

Indian Lake is a 4,200-acre, 14-mile long impoundment of the Indian River in Northern New York. Indian lake has mostly a rocky substrate and shoreline. Indian Lake tends to be split based on the fishing species targeted. Lake trout and whitefish are commonly caught on the north end the lake where the deepest point of over 80 feet can be found. Trolling throughout the year at the optimal depth of target species and casting or vertical jigging are best. Lakers will move to shallower water seeking baitfish but move to deeper depths as the summer warms. The southern half of the lake is best for northern pike and smallmouth bass fishing. Pike love spoons and crankbaits and smallmouth respond to finesse techniques and spinner baits. Boating can be hazardous with numerous unmarked shoals so use caution.
