Largemouth BassTechniqueFinesse JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationWindy and cold today. Started off the day throwing jigs where the lily pads usually are. There's old stems n stuff there that they seemed to be relating to. Caught a few on the jig and switched over to a shallow crankbaits. I actually didn't expect to get bit on cranks in 39 degree water so I threw it around for fun. Turns out reaction was the ticket. Caught several more. Finally got to try the new Shimano Mastiff FC. So far so good. I'm a longtime sunline user, but the Mastiff really did it's job today. First impression, it's got the best of both Sniper and Shooter. Manageable and limp line sniper, sensitive and strong like shooter. Knot strength seemed good so far as well.

Largemouth BassTechniqueStructure JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureReedsStarted out pitching jigs along the reeds because I assumed the bass were still in their spawn mode. Managed to get a few in the boat. Moved off the shoreline after seeing a lot of cruisers in the 6-8ft of water range. Tossing bluegill pattern jigs and chatterbaits seemed to be the ticket because I noticed the bluegills were on beds already. Caught bass all throughout, couldn't really pattern them well today. Got them along the reeds and off the deeper drop offs with jigs, and in between by burning a chatterbait. The bass are all pretty much post-spawn already, a bit earlier than many of the other lakes in the area.
