Lake Details

What you need to know about fishing Lake Charlevoix

Lake Charlevoix is a 17,200-acre lake located in the northern part of lower Michigan with a max depth of 122 ft. The upper section of the lake consists of deeper depths while the lower section reaches depths of 36 ft. Lake Charlevoix is also connected to Lake Michigan via a canal on its eastern shoreline. There are many access points for shore anglers and boaters with its large supply of parks, boat launches, and marinas. Trout, walleye, bass, pike, perch, crappie and sunfish are available in numbers. With its proximity to Lake Michigan and abundance of food supply, this lake is known to have giants of each species. Walleye angling is generally slower than other surrounding lakes but when you hook into one there is a better chance of it being of great size. Early morning and evening bites produce the most numbers. Trolling crankbaits or casting towards shore in 3 – 12 ft of water around weed beds is a great strategy throughout the year. Smallmouth can be found along canal walls dragging soft plastic worms and jigs.
