What You Need to Know About Fishing Lake Clarks Hill

(Also known as J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir) Shore fishing opportunities are available in several locations along the 1,200 miles of shoreline including Below Dam South Carolina, Clarks Hill Park, Lake Springs Page, the Petersburg Campground and Amity Recreation Area. Jigs and crankbaits in black or brown and dark colored soft plastics can be seen by fish and generate a bite. Fish will hold shallow in cooler months and retreat to ledges and the river channels as the season warms the water. Bass in particular will feed on slower presentations in the winter and spring and faster presentations in the summer. After the water gets too warm the fish will slow down again and become sluggish. This can inform the right tackle and presentation throughout the year on Clarks Hill.
