Fish were all three stages of the spawn, but the majority were post-spawn. This set up let me cover water and throw to any fish I saw cruising or on a bed. To be honest though they were eating almost anything you threw, top water, shaky heads, wacky worms. Now is a great time to go out and build some confidence in a technique.

It’s that time of year and a lot of people forget about swimming a worm, one of my favorite ways to catch frye gaurders! I throw this on both a spinning and casting setups. 1/8-3/16 on spinning and up to 3/8 on casting. I should go by too. Stay back off the bank and make long accurate cast around cover and docks. Typically you can pick off more than one fish. The key is to slow roll the bait making sure you stay in contact with the bottom. Hook set wise, reel and set. Tight Lines!

Spots are coming in for their spring spawn. There are some fish chasing and shallow in locations, weather dependent, but fish are on points and humps in numbers. Rocky features on cold mornings do better than straight clay, feeding off the bottom.

Fish are moving into spawn coming into the full moon on Hartwell. Cooler temps have some them held back a touch, but the fish are close.

Located baitfish (Blueback Herring) being pushed to the surface off of points, and cast Spinnerbaits. Largest Wiper was 23 inches and 6.5 pounds.

Up shallow on the points at daylight, but as the sun comes up move out and fish on the cane piles in 20-30 ft of water and change to chrome. Follow up fish that miss the topwater with zoom super fluke on weighted hook. 1/16 or 1/8 depending on depth fish are located on livescope/forward facing sonar.

I fished Lake Hartwell for both Largemouth and Spotted Bass. While there are still some spawners, most bass were post-spawn and heading into the summer season patterns. I was able to find largemouth in muddied creek arms along flooded trees and laydowns in the morning using weighted weedless wacky rigs and megabass boa buzzbaits. During the heat of the day, move to stick ups and flooded brush, under overhanging trees and shade using weighted, weedless, wacky rigged senkos. I was also able to target spotted bass on rocky, main-lake primary points. For spots, utilize swimbaits on primary points and ned-rigs on main lake island ledges and rockpiles.
