Well, fall is in full effect and the water temps have dropped significantly. Most places on the lake the water temps are in the high 60s / low 70s. Additionally, they have the lake drawn down. Most of the good areas that normally have 3' - 4' of water have about 1.5'. This draw down has really limited the amount of available water to efficiently fish. With the water cooled off, the best thing to do is lock a punch rig in your hand. The trick is to find blown in hyacinth in areas that have at least 2' of water under them. Its also important to find the cleaner looking water. Most of the hyacinth is pretty packed in because of all the wind we get this time of the year. A 1.5 Oz weight is the lightest weight I could get through most places successfully. I like the Gene Larew Hammer Craw when I am punching. It is a smaller, less intimidating, bait and holds a Gamakatsu Super Heavy Cover Flipping Hook really well. When you get a bite its going to be a good one. Make sure you are using a big enough rod to get them out of that stuff. I like a Dobyns Champion XP 806. It takes a little time to find the right stuff right now, but this is a great time of year to catch giants. Good Luck - Dicky D
