Smallmouth are moving around on shallow flats following large schools of perch and small minnows. Wind direction and sun with help you to locate the bait, where the bass will be. The most productive depths have been anywhere from 6 to 12 feet. Look for flats with sparse vegetation and rocks or gravel mixed in, utilizing electronics will greatly increase productivity.
