Got on a bit of an unexpected frog bite this weekend. The pad fields that were too thick to fish a frog through this summer are now very sparse. These pads were perfect for a popping frog. The fish were concentrated on the pads and if you can find pads with laydowns nearby that was even better. Besides location, fish the frog just like you would during the summer. Went out Thursday and Friday for a few hours, and ice was barely holding on. Fished the weed line(~6-10ft) leading into a basin(~18ft). I generally setup in that ~10ft zone and panfish were definitely all over the place, as I would mark some coming from shallow(3-4ft) and others from deeper(+10ft). I did fish the basin a little bit(15-18ft), catching one baby walleye and marking another good fish but it wasn't as hot a bite as the shallow/dropoffs. Was able to get 2 pike to bite, one on the tipup and one on a Frostbite Dinner bell.
