Most of my fish came close to shore so try to parallel the rip rap on the MN side of the lake, slow and steady with pauses, make sure you’re making contact with the rock and hold on… these fish will eat at all hours of the day on steeper rip rap banks!

Switched to a Texas rig vile bug(got through the grass a lot better too!) started getting good bites and located the fish. Water was dirty so a junebug/black blue was the best color option, just fished slow picked apart the vegetation!

Most of the baitfish and shad in the river in early July are about 1". Found several places were smallies were schooling on these small bait fish. Downsizing swim jig trailers and topwaters seemed key to converting short strikes to landed smallies. Smallmouth had the baitfish pinned around hard bottom current breaks with access to the channel

Marked most of this structure in 8-12 feet of water, came back through with the compact football jig and started getting more and bigger bites!
