Smallmouth BassTechniqueNed RigsSeasonFallStructureDocksThis report is for 10/1/21 to 10/2/2021. Weather is unseasonable warm and humid, with on and off rain and drizzle. Huge algae bloom with bright green near shore. I think this warmth made the fishing a bit tough as the fish don't know if fall is coming or what is going on. Started out fishing with some chatterbiats and topwater with no luck. Noticed lots of walleye anglers fishing pretty deep so tried out fishing nearby for smallies, with a little luck on the drop shot around 15 to 20 feed deep. Overall fishing seemed pretty stingy. Finally started catching them on a ned rig near docks and some flats outside of spawning bays. Overall great trip, wished we would have caught a few more.

Smallies were caught in 8-12 feet over rocks using a 1/4 jig and a small sucker minnow

Fish the rock transitions. Any depth 15'-30'. Bigger fish are deeper, but bring them up slow. Drift/troll with the wind.

Water was still 51-55 this late in the year, we caught eyes in 12-30 feet on wind blown rock points. Most fish were caught on hard/soft transitions. Fish were caught on rigs and jigs with minnows, a few caught on slip bobbers and crankbaits
SpeciesWalleyeTechniqueTrolling Deep (20'+)SeasonFallStructureOpen Water/BasinTrolling is a great way to put a trophy in the boat!, A few thing to key in on trolling is, the little things make all the difference. After you put line on your line counter reels take the time to calibrate them, and what i mean is take a tape measure and measure out 100' and 150' and zero the counter on the reel pull them out at 100' and 150' if you are short on the line counter add backing to the reel, if you are over your mark take line off. Go to your app store and download the Precision Trolling App. It is simple to use and it makes all the difference and you know how deep you baits are. Make sure all your lines are the same so you can duplicate what is working. Make sure to zero your line counter reels before you put your line out each time. When bringing the fish in don't pump the fish in just steady pressure and keep reeling. When setting lines run as loose of a drag as possible and turn your clicker on so you can hear if line is going out. Put about 15' of mono or floro between your bait and the lead to act like a shock absorber and a snap to the bait. Good Luck!
