Overnight rains caused muddy water in the feeder creeks of the bay. The water is stained and in some places muddy. Find the cleaner water in 4-7 feet and you will entice a few Pike. A couple more days of rain will create a fairly consistent pattern for Northern in Little Sodus. They won't come ready, but the will come. Good luck and we'll see you out there.

Capt Dustin here, I'm sitting here preparing for NY Pike Season opening on Monday, May 1st (NY no longer opens on the 1st Saturday in May, it is May 1st is of 2022). And thought I'd share a little about my plans for a May 1st opening. Northern Pike will be coming out of spawn in the shallow marshes into 48ish degree water in Little Sodus Bay. I am sticking up on Power Pro 20#, Mepps Musky Killers (Oranges and Silvers with willow blades), Blue Fox Vibrax (Oranges and Silvers with Indiana blades), and War Eagle Screaming Eagle double willow in Blue Herring and Mouse. These colors will cover the sun and overcast days, daybreak and sunsets as well. Northern Pike coming out of spawn will be hungry and cold. They are looking for a little bit of warmth. This warmth can be found on shallow (4-6ft) rock shoals, points, and humps surrounded by upcoming weed beds. If you can find an extra 2 degrees, you'll find Pike. I like a variable retrieve, change it up. Stay as slow as you can and stay out of trouble and switch it up from there. Silver in the sun, gold when overcast, orange always. Things can always change. This is my plan, remember this... A plan is always a point to deviate from but it is a place you can always come back to. Happy fishing, see you on the water
