The cold fronts this week have dropped the water temps pretty significantly around the lake. Most of the fish have pushed out of the shallows due to this and have relocated into the 8-12 foot depth range. Most of our success came outside of spawning flats off the first "edge" with some sort of cover and structure for the bass to hold onto. This cover/structure consisted of drop offs (some of small as 1-2 feet), bottom composition transitions, and rock piles. If these areas also had the presence of baitfish such as perch, you would find the smallmouth and walleye close by. The small swimbait and the football were the two baits we locked in our hands to put all of our fish in the boat. Made a trip on memorial day up to Mille Lacs. Launched out of Garrison and poked around the west side a bit. Water temps were right around 60-62. Cloudy day with intermittent rain. Found fish in a few different spots with different techniques. On shallow visible rocks I was throwing the fluff on top. Caught a few nice fish doing this. They wanted it super slow, almost stopping it on their noses. Hopping from rocks to rocks I would throw the chatterbait into a little deeper water and plucked a few of these staging fish. Nothing crazy here, just get the jig vibrating and they hit it. It has become one of my favorite power fishing baits on mille lacs. Toss a ned around big rocks and there are always fish to be had there.

Caught some fish on beds in 2-6 feet on a heavy white tube, but also caught a bunch on black and purple Bear Pig Outfitters hair jigs in the same areas so I believe the smallies are just starting to spawn as we seen many couples playing footsie together during our day.
