Black bass are getting active and chasing bait up shallow. There was a decent shallow crankbait bite on rip rap banks and around wood.

The fish were suspended beneath the floating docks in 20 to 24 feet of water. The lake looked a little off- color from normal. With partial clouds and a light wind. I caught 15 with the best 5 around 12 LBs. the retrieve was a slow steady speed about 6-8inches below the surface.

We went out to Lake Perry in Kansas by Topeka. Thought with the nights starting to cool down we might hit some crappie. Well, we found the water temperature still in the low 80's and the brush piles vacant of fish. So we switched up our plan and started following the banks thinking they might be hanging around the drop offs with the water still warm. Well, that didn't work either. Next we hung off shore and cast to the shoreline. To our surprise, we started catching fish. Sorry to say, most of the crappie were less than 10" but the bass and catfish that we caught between the crappie kept up the level of fun we were looking for. Hoping some more cool nights keep coming our way and drop the water temperature and kick up the crappie activity in the next few weeks. Good luck all and keep your line wet.
