TechniqueSwim JigsSeasonSummerStructureDocksDocks on Platte are back to being a thing in 2025. I struggled to get anything off of them last year. This year I’m having some success most of the time I have given them a try. As you can see from the picture it was a sunny day.

Largemouth Bass
TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationThey wanted the ToadZ burning across the surface this morning. I got one bass that was over 4lbs and three that were over 3lbs. They just crushed it. If you have water temp above 70, give burning a toad a try. I also got a few pike and I think missed a Bowfin

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonFallStructurePointsFish up to 3 1/2 pounds on a steep drop off a point. Also caught some off docks on a Yumdinger. Needed the wind to be blowing into the point and docks. Best 5 were 16 lbs 11 oz.

TechniqueBuzzbaitsSeasonFallStructureSubmerged VegetationGot out the past couple of nights. On the first night the bass were slamming the Toadz in and around pads. Just vicious strikes. Last night I caught a few mostly small bass around docks other than the first one that was 3lbs. Got better size along the inside edge of some reeds. Got my big fish both night’s on weed flats throwing a buzzbait with a Hot Snakes Toadz. That Hot Snakes color is fire on Platte, but the pike love it as much as the bass. The first night I also got a couple quality bites over the weed flat on a Repo Man and Terkel Sprinker.

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonFallStructureSubmerged VegetationThe SE wind had me choosing to go North in Platte. Not a good choice on this cool evening. I only got two bass. The first was a two pounder that was relating to shallow weeds close to a drop off. The three pounder was caught in 5’ of water next to a rice point on a inside turn. I missed a bite on a frog about a half hour later on that same rice/inside turn. I also got a few pike on the Big Blade Chatterbait.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonFallStructureDocksStarted out on a few docks. Got the biggest one of the evening (3.5 lbs) on the very first dock on a Strike King Skipping Jig with Menace Grub trailer. Got 3 bass on the final dock on a Zoom Super Fluke. I went and picked up my brother and we frogged the rest of the evening. Steve got 2 Platte Lake Special’s in the boat quickly, but that was the end of his luck as he missed his last 5 or 6 blow ups. I got one PLS on the.same Bobby’s Perfect Steve was throwing and got my final bass of the trip on a Hot Snakes Z-Man Toadz. Best 6 fish weighed (14.57) My brother had a couple of big fish miss his frog. Could have been pike, bass, or dogfish.

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonFallStructureReedswater temp was in the low to mid 60's windy cool in the morning warming to 70 by afternoon. Bag of 5 was near 17lbs. fish were very active till 10ish. Throwing a white chatterbait in the reeds produced a lot of early fish. if there is any foil left a black/blue jig picked up a few more fish in 8-10'. you can access Sullivan from this lake but it didn't seem to produce as well. fished the same type of structure also a jig around docks

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonFallStructureLily PadsTook morning and evening trips Sunday before Labor Day. Started in Sullivan, but it wasn’t happening. Went to a slop area on the south end of Platte. My brother got the skunk out of the boat on a Bobby’s Perfect Frog. That frog got bitten off shortly after. My brother put the next 4-bass in the boat on a KVD Sexy Frog. Finally toward the end of the trip I got a Platte Lake Special in the boat and that was the last bass landed in the morning. In the evening I took us to a protected area on the north end of Platte. I got on the board quickly with a 3.60lber on a Hot Snakes Z-Man Goat Toadz. Fishing was good and my brother added to the days limit with a 3 and the days big (4.51lbs) caught within minutes of one another on the KVD Frog in the reeds. We landed 14 bass during the evening trip and lost 5 or 6 more. Our best 6 for the day went 19.5lbs. The vegetation really thinned out this week and the pads look like it’s October the way they turned yellow and brown.
