TechniqueSwim JigsSeasonSummerStructureDocksDocks on Platte are back to being a thing in 2025. I struggled to get anything off of them last year. This year I’m having some success most of the time I have given them a try. As you can see from the picture it was a sunny day.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationThey wanted the ToadZ burning across the surface this morning. I got one bass that was over 4lbs and three that were over 3lbs. They just crushed it. If you have water temp above 70, give burning a toad a try. I also got a few pike and I think missed a Bowfin

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonFallStructureLily PadsGot a late start tonight due to the wind. The only thing I got bit on was the Coppertreuse Goat Toadz. Final fish of the night was the biggest (3.39lb) 6 bass in a couple of hours for just under 12lbs. Lost one about 2lbs and got 5 pike as well.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureMatted GrassI had motor issues tonight, so I scrapped going down to Sullivan while underway and went to the far North of Platte instead. The bay I went to sets up like the one I reported on the other day; a weed flat behind the reeds and rice/pads lining the shore. I got my first bass casting out over the coontail with the frog. My final three fish came from rice/pads. Apparently my battery wasn’t charged properly and so 45 minutes into fishing on this windy night I was running low on juice for the trolling motor. I caught all of my fish in that first 45-minutes. My biggest bass was just under three pounds and my four fish weighed 9.54lbs. I fished the final two hours of daylight until it was dark (8:45pm)

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonFallStructureLily PadsTook morning and evening trips Sunday before Labor Day. Started in Sullivan, but it wasn’t happening. Went to a slop area on the south end of Platte. My brother got the skunk out of the boat on a Bobby’s Perfect Frog. That frog got bitten off shortly after. My brother put the next 4-bass in the boat on a KVD Sexy Frog. Finally toward the end of the trip I got a Platte Lake Special in the boat and that was the last bass landed in the morning. In the evening I took us to a protected area on the north end of Platte. I got on the board quickly with a 3.60lber on a Hot Snakes Z-Man Goat Toadz. Fishing was good and my brother added to the days limit with a 3 and the days big (4.51lbs) caught within minutes of one another on the KVD Frog in the reeds. We landed 14 bass during the evening trip and lost 5 or 6 more. Our best 6 for the day went 19.5lbs. The vegetation really thinned out this week and the pads look like it’s October the way they turned yellow and brown.

TechniqueSwim JigsSeasonSummerStructureDocksStarted out the evening catching fish up to 2lbs on an All-Terrain skipping jig (brown/back) with Z-Man Goat (green pumpkin) and a Zoom Super Fluke (albino). Also got a few bonus bass between docks out of slop and pads on a Bobby’s Perfect Frog and a 3lber on a craw tube (black/blue) after it missed the frog. I went back and picked up my brother Steve and headed to the north end of the lake. He got a total beast of a 17.5-incher right away in the reeds on a Bobby’s Perfect (sparrow).. I got a couple 2lber on Z-Man Billy Goat (green pumpkin) as well as Steve on the Bobby’s Perfect. As the sunset I took us to a reed island where Steve got a couple 2lber and I got the night’s big bass (4.18) all on a Bobby’s Perfect. We missed doubling up twice; I messed it up the first time and Steve the second.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureLily PadsWas running about 35-minutes behind this morning, so the sun was up shortly before I arrived at my first spot. I caught 2lber right away on the Bobby’s Perfect. Had a couple more boils in the reeds. Moved farther North to slop and reeds. Got the 4lber there and a few more on the Terminator Poppin Frog. I decided to go back to my staring spot and try the Poppin Frog. Nothing, so I headed toward Sullivan and got a bass on the Poppin Frog and Z-Man Billy Goat before I passed into Sullivan.

TechniqueBuzzbaitsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationThe wind was blowing out of the SE this morning, so I thought I would give the North end that’s protected from that wind direction a try. I have mostly written off Platte this year due to a severe winter kill and have spent the vast majority of my time this year in Sullivan. I lost a two pound bass that hit my Snagproof Frog in pads, rice, and reeds. I missed a couple of other bites, but they easily could have been pike. I then moved out of the slop and caught four bass on the Greenfish Buzzbait in short order on a shallow coontail flat that is tucked in behind the reeds. I also caught a bunch of mostly small pike. I also got a nice bass in the rice and pads along the inside edge of the reeds on the Snagproof. I got my final bass of the trip along the North side of the Big Island on the buzzbait. My biggest bass was three and a half pounds. I consider getting six bass on Platte a victory at this point.
