Summary

What you need to know about fishing Ross R Barnett Reservoir

Ross Barnett Reservoir “The Rez” is a 33,000-acre impoundment located just north of Jackson in central Mississippi. It has 105 miles of shoreline and an average depth of 12 ft. Access to the water comes easy with the many boat launches, marinas, and campgrounds scattered around the lake. Bass, crappies, and stripers are the most sought-after species among anglers. Jigs and soft plastics are often thrown around vegetation while crankbait/spinnerbaits are great options for the stump fields and rip rap. During the winter months, slow dragging baits like a Carolina rig are often productive near submerged main like points and channel edges. Crappie are found throughout the lake year-round with the spring being a great time to target them moving shallower with soft plastic grubs and minnows. Stripers can be located north of the Highway 43 bridge in the spring and towards the main lake as it moves into summer. Max Depth: 35 ft, Average Depth: 12 ft
