Bass were on beds and cruising around emergent reeds in 3-4ft of water. Weightless rigged Berkley General on reed points, inside corners and edges got huge bites. Fish were concentrated in and around the reeds. Crappies also on beds in the reeds. Small 1/32oz jighead with small minnow plastics cast into openings and slowly jigged back. Sight fishing also worked great for crappies on beds. Another option is a cane pole and dropping a crappie jig into clumps of reeds.

Report is for May 11, Fishing Opener. Weather was mostly clear, high pressure. Water temps between 56 all the way up to 65 later in the day up shallow. I got out scouting some new tourney lakes for me. Fish weren't quite as up shallow as I would have expected. Some of it I attributed to the high pressure system that rolled through Friday night. Overall scouting I caught and saw plenty, but no bigguns. Ran the trolling motor about 2 speeds higher than I normally would have to try to see more water. Fish were really out on the deeper edge of reeds, caught a few on an All Terrain jig with craw, half ounce. Also caught some early on topwater. Overall a good day of scouting!

Took the kayak out for the fishing opener. Caught bass, walleye, and northern pike, all on a 3/16 oz VMC swim bait jig with a Bass Assassin Elite Shiner 4” paddle tail. All fish seemed to be schooled up between 6-10 FOW along the ledges.

Search around points and humps at 10-12 feet deep. Using a slip bobber, find the weed edge and go to about 4-5 feet deep. Pink headed jig with a white body seems to be key. Weight is 1/32 oz to 1/16 oz for the jig. With this heat, the lake is starting it's algae bloom, so bright colors that contrast the green algae is something to think about. Pink and white color combos are a go to. Mini Mite for the win.

Took 5th in the greenhorn Sunday league derby out on east/west rush. Fishing up in the slop throwing buzz toads, swimjigs and chatterbaits. Bite was tough to come by, they really only but from 6-10 am and then the rest of the day was really slow. Top water bite died around 8 am. Popping the swimjig and chatterbait every 2-3 turns of the reel was what triggered most of the bites. Fished were caught in 1-6 feet of water.
