Bite was good early. Turned off around 9:00 with a front coming through. Club tournament was won with 14 lb of smallmouth. We had 9-1/2 lb of largemouth with four fish.

Fish were in all phases of the spawn. Was able to catch a few pitching the small worm shallow around laydowns and rock on the bank for smallmouth on beds. In the afternoon caught a few non keeper Largemouth making long casts to mud lines with the S-waiver and Magdraft. had several Largemouth follow the S-waiver back to the boat and they were in the 2 to 4 lbs range.

March on South Holston can be incredible! This early pre-spawn trip to South Holston was dominated by the jerkbait! The smallmouth were absolutely crushing the bait around the dam off of the rock. Lake trout can often be found in 20-40ft of water during the winter, following the schools of baitfish. Jigging a 1/2oz chrome spoon through the baitfish can often produce great results.

Soon after the largemouth are through spawning on the lake, the Shad will begin to spawn. Target riprap and rock banks with overhanging trees. A white spinnerbait is a perfect bait when this is happening. Fish the first few hours after daylight for the best success.
