TechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSummerStructureLaydownsThe tried and true Texas rig on a 5” yum dinger. The best fish magnet on the market. This catch was weightless but I usually use a 3/16 bullet weight.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureLily PadsAlways start the morning with a top water frog on the Lily pads or next to some brush. Works better early morning but there is always a fish willing to bite it.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSummerStructureMatted GrassA killer way to catch largies in the summer time at Busse South Pool is to toss a small 3.8 inch white Keitech weedless swimbait through clumps of grass or at a reed covered bank. Most will see this grass and want to frog it but from what I’ve found, the swimbait is much more productive in the summer.

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureLaydownsWe pre-fished Busse for the IHSA sectional tournament the day before the competition, and we found a good amount of bass staged on lay downs. I caught multiple on this chatterbait in just about an hour.

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationI caught a lot in the spring on this chatter/trailer combo. The key was ripping the chatterbait through new grass growth. I highly recommend jackhammers over typical chatterbaits because they have great hookup and landing ratios and make a little bit of a different sound.
