We had a good mix of smallmouth and largemouth on rocky banks that had a sharp drop to 10-12 ft of water. You didn't have to work the bait much because they hit it either on the fall or just after it hit bottom. There was some fry guarders in shallow weedy water as well. Those fish also ate the Z-Man TRD but you had to hop it some.

Tubes are a staple for river fishing and smallmouth, but a traditional tube head is gonna get hung when tmyou flip it into a laydown. ENTER THE STUPID TUBE! The unique hook bend allows you to rig the tube weedless. There are tons of videos on YouTube about the rigging process. This bait catches smallies year round. Trust me once you try it you’re going to wonder why you waited so long. Stay fishy!!

It started out as a tough day on the water considering I have never fished this river before. I noticed fish slurping bugs off the surface. Tied on a hellgrammite and starting picking up rock bass. Found a shore line with large chunk rocks and that’s when the pattern showed itself. Fish were not wanting any baitfish presentations at all. If there fish are anything like my smallies back home then a hellgrammite should do the trick. The tungsten Ned head really helps you detect super soft bites. These GLF plastic baits are pretty dang durable. Big fan here. Hope you river rats give em a try.
