Fishing this lake in the summertime is not a numbers deal. We covered water looking for active fish primarily using a Megabass Ito Shiner jerkbait. The pike liked the jerkbait but the bass tended to follow but not commit. Tossing back to the followers with a Dark Sleeper, marabou jig or ned rig led to some quality smallmouths. We had high blue skies, light NW wind and water temps around 72 degrees. Main lake points and dropoffs as well as island points and dropoffs were the most productive areas. Key depths ranged from 12-18 ft. Visually casting to the water color change indicating the dropoffs was the most effective approach. Working the relatively light jigs at those depths was a test of patience but it was the most effective pattern we found that day.
