We started to fish really shallow skipping under docks, but no go except for one smallmouth bass. This fish was in the cabbage around six feet deep with the hit and miss reeds. The fishing was not fast action, but the quality of fish was great. Wacky rigged a Yum Dinger in Green Pumpkin with a Heavy Weight VMC #4 to help get the bait down a bit faster.

Ned rigs with Z-Man TRD or 10,000 fish Sukoshi Bugs produced smallmouth during bright days on 10-20’ rocky humps and points. Occasional walleye and northern pike as well. 7’ medium action spinning rods with 15 pound Power Pro braid and a leader with 8 pound Berkley Vanish fluorocarbon.

Early morning or low light day topwater bite for smallmouth was incredible. 10-20’ of water over rocky points or humps.
