The water was down about 6’ for a storm coming in. Between 6am and 9am, it was overcast with light wind out of the west. During that time, I found an area with matted grass and lily pads in roughly 2’ of water. The fish in the picture weighed 4lbs, 14oz and came out of the lily pads for a SPRO popping frog. I caught 3 smaller ones (ranging from 2 - 3.25lbs) using a Berkley popper (shad colored) around the edges of the grass mats.

In the fall, chase the bait. Watch for shad and follow their movements - probably into the shallow creeks. Start with a popper/plopper in the morning and as the day progresses, start working a little deeper with a swim bait or spinner bait.
