The frog bite has finally begun! Bass are roaming, so fan casting a frog in shallower areas has worked well. Many fish are not holding to specific pieces of cover, so it is important to not only throw at high percentage areas, but anything where a bass may hide.

Bemidji typically is a tough bite but there are areas that the bass like to school up in. Look for areas with a good mix of reeds and lily pads and you should find success.

Fish a swim jig (preferably white or chartreuse) over and through the deeper cabbage beds (8FOW +) and you will find pike cruising around. You can put up numbers in the thicker grass, but the bigger pike will be out patrolling the deep weed edges.

Water starting to cool off so the walleyes start pushing shallower. Catch most of mine out here in around 11 feet on sand flats. I just cast around with these snap jigs and work them aggresivley back to the boat. I catch a bunch of them doing this. And they don't seem to care about the weather. Falt calm and sunny or blowing 3 footers it doesnt seem to matter.

The perch were aggressive. Bigger bait, bigger perch 10-11". Northland Tungsten in black worked best with a large minnow head casted with a slow retrieve or subtle vertical jigging. It produced walleye as well.

The walleye fishing on Lake Bemidji is exceptional. As September progresses, the walleye bite remains strong. Water temperatures are around 62-65°F, causing walleye to move closer to shore. Live bait and crankbaits have both been effective. Prime locations include the northern shoreline, rocky points, sunken islands, and weed beds. Pay close attention to the wind and weather conditions.
