Drifting drop shot rigs or baically power shotting with Strike King watermelon/red caffeine shads. 7’ Lews med action spin rod with Lews size 4 spin reel with 10-lb braid and 8-pound fluorocarbon leader. Used 3/8 oz tungsten drop shot with VMC 3/0 spin shot hook.

We've been targeting deep, isolated boulders away from the pack. Most boats are fishing shallower while we're fishing deep. Water temps are in the mid to high 40's and we've been able to capitalize on the deep fish starting to come up. We've used three main baits or techniques to find and locate big smallmouth on Lake Erie. Utilizing moving baits like the Strike King Rage Swimmer have allowed us to find their hiding place and drop on them with a tube or dropshot. Don't be afraid of the outer realm, they're home and the bite is hot.

My new PB Smallmouth Bass weighing in at 6lb 5oz. Heavy wind on this day on Lake Erie in NY drifting over humps with two drift socks and bow mount in use while casting out and imparting aggressive rips with the rod off bottom in 20’ of water and let it sweep back on slack line to the bottom. Bites all came on the drop back on slack line. Just felt the tick or seen the line stop.
