Outing on Tonka for May 17, 2025. Started out cold with temps in the upper 40s, and warmed up through the day to the upper 50s. Fished from about 7am to 1pm. Fish weren't quite up shallow yet and had luck on a chatterbait on the nearby weed flat outside of the spawning zone. Caught about 13 or so today on the chatterbait. Overall great day

Caught some fish guarding fry in the cuts. Most fish were on outside edges of channels. Wacky rigs excelled but caught some fish on frogs as well.

Windy day at Tonka made it tough to stay still. Couldn't get much bite other than chatterbait in bluegill colors and shad colors. Had to stick to the proven drop shot with a heavier weight (1/2oz+) which always catches fish regardless of weather. Casting weedlines 10-15ft deep. The VMC Redline Series Neko Hook #1 size is a game changer! Before my hook-up ratios were poor. VMC neko hooks for drop shot is a must! Sharp, top of mouth, and had to use pliers to get them out most of the time because the hook secures itself in the roof of the mouth very well.

Fished very shallow (0-6 feet) for 2-3 hours after work. Good fish ranging from 1.5-3 pounds seemed to be tucked in by docks and shallow rock piles

Pitching or casting mostly around docks and shallow cover, the deeper the water especially in coves netted more fish.
