Took 2nd place in a little club derby throwing a floating worm and chatter bait on spawning flats. Sight fishing was tough due to being overcast plus stained water but was able to pick up a 4.68 and 3.45. Plenty of males on beds but didn’t see many females yet.

Found smaller males up on the banks in good numbers, larger females are still out deeper staging. Caught males casting to pea gravel banks. Females could be caught shooting docks under floats or could be found out roaming with FFS. Darker colors seemed to work the best for the mid lake area we were in.

I was fishing the MLF Invitational down by the dam where the water was the clearest. In practice I found shallow brushpiles on my sidescan and then would drop my Aqua-Vu camera down in them to see which had bass sitting tight in them. Having bluegills these postspawn bass were feeding on was also key. After locating these key brushpiles I came back with my jackhammer and would stay way back and feather them through and around to get the larger fish to bite. The Aqua-vu played a crucial role in finding some of the best spots and let me fish more efficiently in the tournament.

Mainly fished the Niangua arms and up to Margaritaville Resort in the Osage Arm. Caught several fish that were staging to spawn around the sides and back corners of docks on topwater in the morning and wacky rig senkos as the day went on.

Spawning fish were eating the senko blind casting, the roboworm on a drop shot will catch them off the beds. Post spawn fish on secondary points with the D Stroyer. Caught several keepers on shallow main lake points in the Glaize dragging a green pumpkin D Bomb.

Mainly fished the lower end of the lake. Fish were coming up to spawn and was able to catch them skipping a wacky rig under the cables behind docks. The water was very clear so the bigger fish were on a little deeper beds.

In May, with a high pressured lake such as Lake of the Ozarks the Crock-O-Gator Swamp Bug Green Pumpkin Purple on a 1/4oz Pro Shaker Shakey heads is one of my favorite spring time baits. We had several keepers and several shorts but ended up being limited to a broken trim.
