With water temps between 48-55°, we found fish by the mile roads relating to shallow wood and lay downs between 6-9 feet of water. We fished a Berkley Stunna 112 around dirty water areas with warmer water and baitfish activity. Focusing on areas with dirty, warmer water, was key when the Mile Roads were predominantly ultra clear and cold (sub 48°).

5/15/21 Lightly cloudy with blue skies, winds from the south early on and switched to the east. Water temps in the AM were 47-48 Degrees. Fished in the northern part of the lake in Anchor Bay, with little success, and headed south to the mile roads later in the day to check that out. It was a slow day and it seems the smaller males were the only ones out roaming and feeding. I'm under suspicion that they are bedding up right now, but I didn't go looking for beds, I'll wait until they are done. Need to preserve this amazing fishery! I ran jerkbaits off the shoreline and it was producing fairly well, they were just slow, they waited for the longest pauses. It seemed that I was getting their attention with jigs and swimbaits, but as soon as it touched bottom they lost interest... It was so weird watching that happen on the livescope, I thought it would be the opposite.

The air temps and water temps have been rising. On this day it was about 58 degrees for the air temp at launch (0730hrs) and rose to 80 degrees by 1300hrs. The water temps ranged from 65-68 degrees, depending on the depth and clarity. Most of what we fished was clear and you could see bottom in 6-8FOW. Dragging and swimming the tube were key, as were the dropshot on a flat worm. Got some great underwater footage as well. The attached video is when a smallmouth decided to spit the tube before the hookset. Locate hard bottoms and you'll locate the smallmouth. Grassy patches were good also. Sandy bottoms did not produce. Follow LIVE 2 FISH on YouTube for more great footage and links to the best Omnia products to use on legendary Lake St. Clair!

Got some great underwater footage of the smallmouth bass roaming the rock piles on legendary Lake St Clair! Water temps have been rising and were in the mid 60s. Air temps for the morning were in the low 50s, but were in the high 60s by noon. The winds we coming out of the northeast, pushing us along the shoreline in a southeastern drift. We were dragging tubes and drop shots, but the were only biting on swimbaits. The Keitech Swing Impact FAT in the smallmouth magic color caught us some nice smallies. The Shimano FC line in 12lb test casts very smooth with no memory or backlash issues. Slow retrieve combined with some burining to cover water got their attention.

Fishing 6-8' flats along the mile roads. Sunny and windy conditions had the swimbait bite going.

Find the warmer pockets in back channels and coves and you will run into Lake St Clair's finest Largemouth. When the wind was too strong for the smallmouth, we caught 2 5lb largemouth off bed!
