Was out a few days ago bass fishing and the bass were moving up shallow. Didn’t find very many females spawning but a lot of the males were up in shallow water. I was throwing a black frog most of the time and caught a bunch of fish. Bass were resorting around weeds and any sort of cover up on the shoreline.

On May 20th, it was windy, and water the temp was 63 degrees F. Numbers of keeper bass were hitting a bladed jig retrieved over the tops of submerged weeds in 6 ft of water, ticking the tops of the weeds with the bait. But, the bigger ones were shallow, relating to docks, and bit flipping jigs.

Pitch a chatterbait right up to the shore around and underneath docks positioned on shallow flats with submergent vegetation. Retrieve it as slowly as you can keeping the blade moving and tick it across the tops of the vegetation allowing the blade to stall out occasionally.

Largemouth were staged shallow around docks and vegetation (reeds and shallow weeds). 6” megabass magdraft freestyles rigged on an 8/0 owner weighted beast hook were good producers. Other baits that were working well: megabass vision 110, bluegill swimjigs with larger paddle tail swimbait trailers, and River-2-Sea S-waver 168 in lite trout. Getting close to structure was crucial, and covering lots of water is key.

5/18/2021: In the evening. A few spawned out females were in super shallow water, over sand, in between the reeds and shore, and over sand/gravel between docks. A few keeper largemouth were also biting on weightless wacky senkos, shallow, at the edges of the reeds. The larger fish last night came sight fishing a jig and craw trailer, giving them plenty of time to react, and only twitching that jig a bit every 20 seconds or so.
