Water levels seem back to normal, water clarity normal in the backwaters in the Finger Lakes. Water temperature was at 49.5 degrees so bite will continue to get better. Bass were feeding on baitfish so the Jack Hammer with a cut Hog Farmer pintail definitely did the trick. I would recommend a leader in the backwaters with the amount of northerns that are there. Most of the fish caught were in 4 feet of water on the weed lines.

Bass were very active in the shallows but still have not seen very many of the big females there. With this warm-up the bass will definitely be more active. Unfortunately a lot of the backwaters I fished already had a lot of algae so that made fishing a little tougher. All of the bass I caught were on white color baits. With the Megabass swimbait being a favorite.

Walleyes were on current breaks on non main channel back water currents. Nothing huge but fun.

Fished Pool 5 backwaters for largemouth bass and pike. Booyah Buzzbait brought multiple fish of both species to the kayak for me.

The bite has been a bit tougher with this cold we’ve been dealing with. You have to work a little tougher to get those bites. The bass we’re only biting the pinchers off my creature bait so I downsized and that seemed to do the trick. Black and Blue for flipping is still working and white chatterbaits.

Flipping into brush piles gave a pretty consistent bite this week. The bass were pretty aggressive and would usually hit right away. Fished mostly backwaters with the average depth being 2-3 feet. Black and Blue Flake Rage Bugs were the go-to with a 1/4 oz tungsten flipping weight and 4/0 Owner EWG hook.

Smallies were off the deeper rip rap in slack water. Fish were off the rock a bit and key was to self left off bigger boulders sitting out in 6-8 feet.
