Fish were 2-6’ in coves and outside of coves in weeds. Dragging a bobber and light jig tipped with a small tube was key.

Finding early growth vegetation close to deeper water was key. The shallow fish were stubborn. The active fish were still staging in 8-10 foot of water. Close to spawning areas.

Crappies are really going on isolated patches of weeds in the 4-10 foot range. Drive around with your electronics looking for thicker patches of greener weeds. Closer to deep water and proximity to shallow flats is key. Set your bobber just above the weed tips. These fish like to feed up. Plastics are working as good if not better than minnows this time of year and you keep your hands dry to boot.

Bass were pushed up in grass adjacent to rocks. Best bite is early morning or before sundown. Throw Chatterbaits and Texas rigs into the grass and rip and drag them through. Slow down when you get a bite because they tend to school in the grass.

fished the MN bound crappie contest, was the coldest water in my 7 years of going. The crappie have just moved into the cuts and are starting to feed on gulp minnows. I used a VMC pug bug with a chartruse gulp minnow under a fixed bobber.
