I fished from shore under the northern lights on the MN Fishing Opener from midnight to 2:30 am. I got 5 walleye from 18” to 23” from 1:00 am to 1:40 am on the jerkbait. There was only a slight ripple on the water.

Fish were pushing shallow. Transition areas of bigger rock/boulders next to sand in 2-6ft of water. Jerkbaits, paddle tails swimbaits, and hair jigs were the ticket.

Had a few hours to burn up on Mille Lacs and ran straight to some main lake reefs near the shallower bays. Instantly started catching fish with the ned. Marking some key transition areas where sand met the shallower boulders was the deal. Fish are on the move big time right now.

Fished 2024 opener out here. Was quite stingy and the fish were in a weird stage. Did most my damage in 10-14 FOW of rock humps. Check out the setups I have included and that rod and reel is seriously the best drop shot combo I've ever felt. And check out the flat worms. They just flat out catch em!

Boulders
Fish were starting to make the transition to deeper water. We were finding most fish in the 12-15 foot range hanging around larger boulders. A ned rig was the most productive technique, but we also picked off a few smallmouth with a deeper diving jerkbait.

Fishing submerged vegetation in the morning aiming for spawning bass. Water Temps a little cold with the cold front. They were in 6 to 8ft of water above small weeds.
