Took 2nd place in a little club derby throwing a floating worm and chatter bait on spawning flats. Sight fishing was tough due to being overcast plus stained water but was able to pick up a 4.68 and 3.45. Plenty of males on beds but didn’t see many females yet.

Found smaller males up on the banks in good numbers, larger females are still out deeper staging. Caught males casting to pea gravel banks. Females could be caught shooting docks under floats or could be found out roaming with FFS. Darker colors seemed to work the best for the mid lake area we were in.

The fish are wanting to do their thing. But the weather is playing havoc on them. They still aren't in full spawn in much of the LOZ. The crockogator sapper jig and shorty trailer are doing work around the docks.

Make sure and work front to back on docks until you put together a pattern of where the fish are staging on docks due to wind and bait. Start by slow rolling the head knocker rather than straight to burning the bait.

Tournament day fish mixed rock banks leading to spawning pockets targeting every light spot we could see going down the bank with a shakey head and weightless worm. Watermelon red flake worms seemed to be the color of choice for the bedding fish. Caught tons of fish and culled through multiple 15-16 inch bass just couldn’t get the females to play today ending the tournament in 3rd out of 60.

The white bass are spawning up the major creeks. Small sassy shads, rooster trails and curly trail grubs in white, chartreuse and yellow seem to be the best colors cast light lines and have fun! #Angrypirate

The Berkley Choppo is a versatile bait that I use at the Lake of the Ozarks. This top water prop bait is effective in the spring into the late fall. I use this bait in and around spawning pockets in shallow water, on secondary points and also on main lake.

Female crappie are still staged in 20-25 FOW. Caught a limit and all the females were still full of eggs. Found them not only around docks but also in open water. With the Missouri weather temperature going up and down it seems the crappie have been in the staging pattern for the last couple of weeks. If the temperature stays up I would assume the crappie will move to full spawn in the next few days..
