Seth Feider kneeling on his boat next to an NBT Marine screen

Top Reasons Seth Feider Uses NBT Marine Screens

As Seth says, this 21.6" Battleship NBT Marine screen is probably one of his most fun purchases for his boat this year. As forward-facing sonar becomes the deal in more and more tournaments, it becomes key to get a handle on it and figure out the best way to utilize it in your arsenal, and this is one of the ways Seth is doing it. His top reasons for using NBT Marine are all below!

1. 22 Inches of High Definition LiveScope

21.6 inches (we'll say 22 for simplicity) is huge. People in Seth's life have already started commenting that he has a TV mounted to the front of his boat now, which isn't too far off from the truth! Using an HDMI connection to his Garmin 8612, the NBT screen is mirroring what the Garmin is showing. So the screen isn't doing any new computational work with a new transducer, it's just making his Garmin LiveScope picture much bigger. And the benefits of a bigger picture while using LiveScope are clear. He can see fine detail easier even if he's running four different windows on one screen. He could be running Forward, Down, and Perspective imaging on the NBT at the same time, while also watching a Timberwolves game in another corner of the screen, and he'd be able to see everything just fine.

2. Did We Mention High Definition?

Similar to a bigger picture comes finer detail with the NBT Battleship. Both the Battleship and the Garmin 8612 have a 1920x1080 pixel resolution, but using the bigger size of the NBT, Seth can blow up his LiveScope image to almost twice that of what he could see on the 8612. So that LiveScope image is going to show off the fine detail more and it'll allow Seth to see the minute changes in structure, vegetation, or fish without needing to bend down and get right next to the screen. Everyone's trying to not get scope neck right? Seth can avoid that because he can see all that detail on the bow from as far back as the driver's seat!

3. NBT Saves You Money In the Long Run

Having no electronics sponsor is a blessing and a curse for Seth. He isn't required to use just one brand, but now all the electronics costs are on him and everyone knows electronics aren't cheap. Some pros out there are running five transducers with just as many screens, along with all the accessories needed to support that and the price can easily go north of $20,000. As an example, let's compare what Seth has vs. what he would need to replace it with traditional graphs. With the NBT he's running on his bow and the 8612 he's running on his console, that's about $7,500. It's not cheap but here's what it compares to. Replacing the NBT with the 4 Garmin screens it can show (bringing the total to 5 Garmin 8612's), that's almost $18,000. So the choice for Seth is obvious when it comes to price, he gets just as much screen while spending less money.

4. Save Space and Weight With 1, Not 4

So how do you deploy your trolling motor when you have 4 graphs covering your deck? We don't know, that's some magic pulled by other Elite anglers. The NBT is perfect to compress all that down into one screen that's still big, but still saves so much space. For one thing, it's only one piece of hardware to mount, not 4, which decreases the space and the weight of your electronics. But all that extra bezel space is gone. All that blank space on the edge of a screen? That's the bezel. And with 4 screens that's 4x more bezel space where you aren't seeing any useful information, assuming your Garmin screens are flush with each other. If there's a gap between them that's even more dead space! The NBT has pretty thick bezels on it but you're saving precious inches compared to having many separate screens.

5. Pick Between Huge (22") and Big (16")

This entire time we've talked about the 22" NBT Battleship, but there's also a 16" Destroyer with the same capabilities. If you have a smaller boat or you want an NBT on your console, you can use the 16" Destroyer and still get the space savings, the price savings, and still have a huge screen to get the most out of your electronics. Maybe you're not the hardcore tournament angler going out multiple times a week or you don't want to spend as much money, there's another option for you that's just as good.
