Lake of the Ozarks (May 2) a chilly but beautiful May morning, I targeted both spawning fish behind docks and post-spawn fish off main lake points. Early on, I skipped a hollow-belly Berkley Swamp Lord Frog behind docks. Despite a slow start, a few blow-ups helped fill the boat. Transitioning offshore, I found my biggest fish—a 4.5-pounder—schooling on bait and caught it on a Megabass Magdraft the frog to round out a limit, though no other big bites came. In the afternoon, boat traffic picked up. I tried offshore points again, landing one on a minnow but facing finicky fish. Late in the day, I caught a few more around takeoff, but they didn’t upgrade the bag. I ended up with just over 12 pounds, finishing 30th. One more solid frog bite would’ve made the difference! If you’re heading to Lake of the Ozarks, stay versatile—from points to behind-the-dock shade lines. And for tackle, don’t forget to use code LUKE10 at Omnia Fishing to save 10%!

Nicest one of the day, came off a stump in three feet or less as my trap bounced across it. Fairly muddy, back of a long shallow flat. Caught five or six more throughout the day on spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and Ned rigs.

Hiked a couple miles through the woods, caught a couple along the way. The nicest was on the chatterbait, fishing off a fifteen foot cliff… Very windy, deeper grass beds at about twenty feet or so up against a pretty abrupt rock bank.

Throwing shallow and slowly cranking it back to the boat fishing 0 to 6ft of water slowly rolling it. Sometime quick jerks the let it sit has been the trick to get them to strike.

Tossing around a small bobby garland 2” minnow under a float was the deal for some spring crappies.

Got em on a dropshot up shallow during the post spawn. Lots of smallmouth roam the shallow sand flats with scattered rock when the conditions allow. Using a GLF Dropkick Shad was the right bait to get em to bite

Using a finesse football was a great way to get a few smallmouth for my self the other day during the pre spawn. A Jeff’s jigs rock dawg 1/4 oz Crayfish ( not on omina ) with a GLF 2.1” snack craw in GP red flake was 🔥🔥🔥

Still crushing it with that Sexy Shad Senko. They just can't lay off of it. Anywhere from 15 - 25 feet deep off of main points and slowly dancing along the bottom with very minor twitches. But I had a lot of fun with the deep diving Strike King 6XD Crankbait. Out here on Bullards, I like anything with a little purple in it cuz I know they feast on the Kokanee all year long. Needed the 6XD to get down low enough in the water column. And there's just something awesome about the sudden impact of a crankbait attack.

Was a beauty day out but the boat traffic muddied up the main San Joaquin River. Chatterbaits and punching weren’t working, and switching to a 6” black and blue Senko was the ticket.

Caught one just shy of 5 pounds on Lake Erie. Jeff’s jigs premium marabou jig black 3/32 oz ( not on omina ) was the ticket. Slowly reeling up shallow on sand flats with scattered rock.
