Fished water ranging from 15' to 30' on ledges for smallmouth bass in areas where I knew had a lot of alewife activity. A high pressure system was rolling through, making fish stick to cover after sunrise. A very subtle presentation was necessary. I used 2 different drop shot rigs, hoping if one looked too familiar to the fish, that the other might encourage them to bite. I used a smaller weight to allow for the bait to hover just off the bottom for as long as possible, and placed my casts in front of the fish as close to them as I could. They would not bite if I moved it, but holding the rod still and letting the bait do it's thing in the water, got me a decent amount of bites from inactive fish. I varied my line size between presentations as well to provide different actions with the bait.
